Neuroscience Discovers Narrative

From Professor Peter Greenfield, yet another reason to major in English:

Literary study puts you ahead in the evolutionary struggle. Or so say some of the scholars who have been studying what advances in neuroscience and cognitive theory suggest about the value of stories. Among the ideas covered in a recent New York Times article is the possibility that storytelling developed because of our evolutionary need to understand what others are thinking. Stories give us insight into others’ thoughts and motivations. So read—and evolve!
