“The sepulchre there by the sea…”

Eddie, on a good day

Eddie, on a good day

Those of you in the know may recognize the title as a line from Edgar Allan Poe’s poem “Annabel Lee.” You may remember that we here at Puget Sound staged our own bicentennial SymPOEsium events honoring Poe’s birth, and now it looks like the rest of the world is finally catching up. Alum Jade Moss from Colorado directs our attention to this overdue restaging of the funeral Poe (who died mysteriously after being found delirious on the streets) ought to have had. The event, which was presented twice to accommodate all mourners, featured such luminaries as H.P. Lovecraft and Alfred Hitchcock—or their representatives–offering eulogies of the great man.

For more information and a “local” (Baltimore) perspective, as well as links to some of Poe’s works and the original news report of his death, check out this link to the Baltimore Sun coverage. Or click on
NPR for an audio version or transcript of at least some of the proceedings. Nevermore, Indeed!
