Puget Sound English…abroad

The department bids a fond, temporary farewell to Associate Professor Julie Nelson Christoph, who is off for an exciting year of research and teaching in Tanzania. Professor Christoph received a prestigious Fulbright award to study the effects of Tanzania’s model adult literacy programs. She will be on leave from the department for the 2009-10 academic year, but promises to return with great stories, research, and teaching ideas to share with us all. We wish Professor Christoph and her family all the best on this great adventure, and we look forward to following their exploits electronically at their blog, “Our Year in Zanzibar.” Vaya con Dios, fare-thee-well, and au revoir!

In other international news, English alum Emilie DeWulf (’08) recently returned from her Watson Fellowship year in Brazil, Namibia, Iceland, Morocco, and Mongolia, where she studied traditional horsemanship practices, with the goal of preserving them for future generations.

As always, we want to hear about your adventures, international or local! You can contact us via this blog, through our Facebook page, or with an old-fashioned letter or postcard.
