Some Refreshing Words About Creative Writing

Thanks to poet Mark Doty‘s post on facebook, we’ve learned about a review- article that takes a refreshing new look at creative-writing programs and (in Mr. Doty’s words) avoids “the familiar bombast.”  Here is a link to the article, which appears in the Chronicle of Higher Education under “Chronicle Reviews” in the June 29, 2009, issue, and is written by Jennifer Howard, who amplifies on and reviews Mark McGurl’s The Program Era: Postwar Fiction and the Rise of Creative Writing (Harvard University Press, 2009):
