Squaw Valley Writers Conference

red-dog-lift-on-creeksideJudging from the photo at left, you might not guess that Squaw Valley, California, is sunny and relatively snow-free (except for the top of peaks) in the summer, and that it hosts a venerable writers conference, aptly named the Squaw Valley Writers Conference. It features workshops in poetry, fiction, and screen writing and takes place from mid-July through early August, depending in part on which workshop you choose.  Unfortunately, applications for this year’s  SVWR were due in mid-May, but keep the conference in mind for next year, and note that several readings are open to the public this summer, including ones by Cornelius Eady, Robert Haas, Brenda Hillman, Evie Shockley, Sharon Olds, and Galway Kinnell.  So if you happen to be in or near Northern California in general and Lake Tahoe in particular in July, you might check out one or more of the readings.   Here is a link:
