Puget Sound Japanese-American Students to be Honored at Graduation

In 1942, 36 Japanese-American students were removed from campus, interned with their families in Puyallup, and later dispersed to over 60 different intern-camps operated by the U.S. government.  At the Commencement ceremony this Sunday, all of the former students wil be awarded a long-overdue honorary degree from the University, and several will be in attendance.   Professor Tamiko Nimura (English Department) will read a special proclamation in honor of these former Puget Sound students.  For a more extensive discussion of these (and other) honorary  degrees and this year’s Commencement in general, please see the following link:
