Poet and spoken-word artist Antonio Edwards was named the new Poet Laureate of Tacoma last night. He will take over from our department’s own Bill Kupinse, the first to occupy the post, which is sponsored by Urban Grace Church, the pastor of which is Tad Monroe (also a poet).
Here is a link to more information about Antonio Edwards:
Edwards performed several of his pieces late night in Rausch Auditorium, where Kupinse and Professor Ostrom also read their poetry.
At the event, librarian Jane Carlin announced the creation of the Collins Press on campus. The press will produce fine hand-printed works. Its first creation is a bookmark, designed and printed by Chandler O’Leary, with a four-line poem by Ostrom, “Message From a Bookmark.”
Also released last night was In Tahoma’s Shadow: Poems From the City of Destiny, an anthology edited by Bill Kupinse and Tammy Robacker and published by Exquisite Disarray Press. Look for copies at King’s Books on St. Helens and elsewhere.
