Kudos to THE BYGONE BUREAU
Some good news passed along by Professor Nimura regarding a student-edited publication:
“The online journal The Bygone Bureau, co-edited by senior English majors Kevin Nguyen and Nick Martens, has made it to the finalist round of the SXSW Web Awards! SXSW is in Austin, Texas; it’s a music and media conference, according to the website, but it’s a HUGE festival featuring almost 2000 musical acts from around the world. A pop music lover’s dream, from what I’ve heard.
The award process is first a nomination, then a review process to determine finalists, and then the awards ceremony in March. The awards are judged on visual design, functionality, content, interactivity, and creativity.
The Bygone Bureau has published 3x/week almost continuously for over a year; contributors are mostly UPS student writers and alums, but also a few other student writers from around the country. I’ve been following it since its inception. Many of you have probably had Bureau writers in your classes; the staff list is on the website. Nick is also one of the SymPOEsium student assistants.

Thanks to Professor Nimura for the news, and congratulations to the Bygone Bureau’s editors and writers!
