New Thomas Pynchon novel out in 2009

pynchonLots of you ask about postmodern novelists, and we faculty in the English department often recommend writers such as Ishmael Reed, Kurt Vonnegut, Don DeLillo, Donald Barthelme, William Burroughs.

And, of course, Thomas Pynchon (author of Crying of Lot 49 and Gravity’s Rainbow).

Here’s some good news.  Pynchon has a new novel forthcoming in 2009 from Penguin.  And here’s the very “juicy” (I think, anyway) description of it from the Penguin catalog–it’s titled Inherent Vice:

“Part noir, part psychedelic romp, all Thomas Pynchon–private eye Doc Sportello comes, occasionally, out of a marijuana haze to watch the end of an era as free love slips away and paranoia creeps in with the LA fog.”
