An acclaimed production of Othello (directed by Arin Orbus) begins today and runs through August 2 at the Intiman Theater in Seattle. As the Intiman’s web site notes, the New York Times review of this production includes the following paragraph:
“This is among the most sensitively directed, eloquently designed and impeccably acted productions of a Shakespeare tragedy that the city has seen in years… Ms. Arbus allows this most taut and tense of Shakespeare’s tragedies to weave its inexorable spell simply by letting the language breathe and the drama unfold at a quietly accelerating rhythm.”
In 2006, the Intiman won a Tony Award for outstanding regional theater. The theater also features an annual production of Langston Hughes’s gospel song-play Black Nativity each November/December. Here is a link to the Intiman’s site, which has more information about times and tickets for Othello:
